Aaron S. Watkin

Following 17 years as the Ballet Director of the Semperoper Ballett in Dresden, the Canadian director was celebrated for his successful tenure following the company's premiere of White Darkness triple bill on 3 June. Watkin is moving to London to take up the artistic directorship of English National Ballet at the start of the new season, succeeding Tamara Rojo who left the post to take over the San Francisco Ballet at the end of last year. In turn, Semperoper Ballett will welcome Kinsun Chan as its new director at the start of the 2024/25. Currently director of the dance company at Theater St. Gallen, Chan’s contract will initially run for four seasons until the 2027/28 season. In the interim Marcelo Gomes as Artistic Manager and Adi Luick as Company Manager will assume joint responsibility for the Semperoper Ballett for the 2023/24 season. Watkin reflects on his years in Dresden in a filmed interview.
